Today's lead editorial in Mint is on the "current account deficit" - which is another of those "national economy" numbers to do with national exports and imports, the balance of trade, the balance of payments and such BULL.
Now, everyone knows that the biggest deficit pan-India pertains to the supply of electric "current."
Further, the accumulated losses of all the State-owned monopolistic Electricity Boards are not just any ordinary "deficit," for the State-owned banking system has advanced them so much that bankruptcy looms ahead - while the nonavailability of regular electric "current" will remain.
And this The State is proceeding rapidly with NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS under its ownership - because of "pressure" from the USSA, which means "DC current."
And there is almost ZERO LIABILITY for the foreign suppliers of this nuclear equipment - but that's another story, on what I prefer to call HIGH TREASON.
With "private money," as in the case of a Gold Standard, all that any "civil government" has to do is "balance its budget" - while every Individual makes attempts to "accumulate private capital" by saving, investing, producing, exchanging and all that.
That's it!
THEY balance their own accounts - and leave the rest of us alone.
PERIOD!
A Fixed Budget that disallows government borrowing and limits taxation is as necessary in any civil constitution as the limit to its powers of coercion.
We suffer under an UNLIMITED CONSTITUTION - which is why I wrote only yesterday that the Comptroller and Auditor-General must AUDIT the RBI! (Reserve Bank of India.)
Now, Mint's second editorial of today is on "debates" - or why we need such debates in India, as happens in the USSA. Bit too late to think, isn't it?
After all, their FRONT PAGE carries the report that the government-of-the-day has taken another of those backroom "administrative decisions" to raise legislated limits to foreign investments in insurance and pensions - so, during HIGH INFLATION, they will IMPORT more INFLATION! Who will purchase even LIFE INSURANCE when inflation rages so? And they are TAXING GOLD, as well as imposing the MOST EVIL capital gains tax on physical gold - to FORCE people into buying ETFs, which could very well CRASH. None of this is ever written about in the financial press - who express opinions that ABET all this HIGH TREASON going on.
Anyway, the government-of-the-day took another of these "administrative decisions" a while ago to allow foreigners to invest in supermarkets and civil aviation. There was no debate in Parliament! And the combined opposition has taken to STREET PROTESTS.
Debates?
Cloudcuckooland, if you ask me, the same as "current account deficit."
Most interestingly, the Times of India of yesterday carried a leader article by Kapil Sibal, socialist lawyer and Central Education Minister, on why allowing foreigners to invest in supermarkets is such a good and great thing, "on the right side of history," and a means of fostering "economic growth" as well as "fighting inflation." The "fighting inflation" bit implies that this monopolistic educator empowered to use force is teaching BULLONOMICS - but that apart, the real question that arises is: Why did their government delay taking this "right side of history" decision for 10 long years. As evidence, here is MY LEADER ARTICLE in the same newspaper defending foreign investments in supermarkets dated 2005 - that is, seven long years ago. So much HISTORY has passed by since then, huh? And they have been on its WRONG SIDE all this time.
Wonder what they teach about foreign investments, free capital flows, and multinational companies in their classrooms?
For the news has it that Rahul Gandhi is in Srinagar, Kashmir, accompanied by Tata-Birla swadeshi businessmen. Why did HE not take along these FOREIGNERS? Who "educated" him? What "debate" can HE enter?
Let us now turn to the street protestor Mamata Banerjee, newly installed chief minister of West Bengal, who ousted the commies - but, quite obviously, has nothing to do with CAPITALISM. Just another "rail mantri" if you ask me - The Laloo Yadav of West Bengal.
She is IGNORANT of Calcutta's HISTORY - surely because she has RENAMED the city.
Her government occupies Writers' Building, once the Headquarters of the Honourable East India Company, whose recruits started off with the designation of "Writer." This was FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT - and it BUILT CALCUTTA.
The Honourable Company PURCHASED the land, laid it out with so much breathing space, broad streets and wide footpaths, and invited all the notables around to build their OWN PROPERTIES and engage freely in trades - by land as well as sea - which is why Murshidabad and Dacca both saw decline, while Calcutta emerged as a "City of Palaces," which were all "private properties."
If you look around Calcutta today, you will still find signs of Foreign Direct Investment - as in the case of the best cinema theatres in this city, all originally owned by Hollywood companies like MGM, Warner Brothers, and so on. Which is why these are the only cinema theatres in India that have BARS in them.
The Calcutta Tramway Company was originally Foreign Direct Investment - way back in 1905 - as was the Calcutta Electric Supply Company.
Then there is TEA - all foreign investment, in Darjeeling first, and later in Assam - which is how Calcutta became the biggest TEA MARKET in the world.
There are many foreign firms whose names are still to be found in the Chowringhee and Dalhousie area - from the Imperial Tobacco Company to both the Grand as well as the Great Eastern hotels, Gillander's Arbuthnot, and so many more, all very swadeshi now.
CULTURE was also IMPORTED - and Park Street of old was where INDIAN JAZZ happened: Louis Banks, Braz Gonsalves, Pam Crain... All very DEAD now. Long ago, Duke Ellington flew to Cal to perform - and not anywhere else in India.
KOLKATA?
To know their HISTORY the good people of CALCUTTA must look closely at the grand VICTORIA MEMORIAL in their city - and STUDY all that the long reign of this monarch was all about. Then, and only then, will they discover CLASSICAL LIBERALISM.
I also suggest they read Nirad C Chaudhuri's Autobiography - in which he says the following about the year 1905, when Queen Victoria as well as Gladstone - the British prime minister who led the Liberal Party right through her reign - both died, when Curzon divided Bengal along communal lines, and when the "nationalist agitation" began:
Let us now look at Mamata Banerjee's THEORY:
First, does DEBARRING foreign investment raise the wages of the poorest workers? Of course not! The more capital invested, the more BIDDERS are there in the market for labour - which raises wages. Capital adds to PRODUCTIVITY - raising wages further. And then, there is CONSUMPTION - which is the reason why workers work - and opening the PORT to free trade is BEST for the poor. Today, as before, there are SMUGGLERS all over the Kidderpore Docks, and in the City Centre as well. Why?
Read Bastiat explaining this FOLLY.
Question: How did she oust the commies? Read this old post to know that she did it all WITHOUT IDEOLOGY.
Her "followers" include an IAS chappie and a television "quizmaster."
Her reputation in office is that of a TINPOT DICTATOR.
Her Governor is a retired "INTELLIGENCE" COP!
So, how do you think they can ever tackle Maoism in West Bengal without the "political ideology" of CAPITALISM?
Thus, the most important question remains: What is to be done with the West Bengal State Education Department?
NOTE: There have never been any television interviews with Mamata Banerjee - so forget about "debates." She is always shown commanding vast "rallies" of the "masses." And there is never any "reportage" of the exact words spoken by her to these crowds.
The same applies to the Anna Hazare BULL. Big media hype. Big crowds. No debates. No interviews. Just snappy "news bulletins" loaded with "soundbytes." Who FUNDED all this tamasha, anyway? No one even ASKED?
All these "licensed" 24x7 "news channels" on television are BOGUS.
They are all simply WASTING the medium - just as The State is WASTING radio, including FM radio. I means "wasting" in the sense of "genuine as well as constructive political purposes." It's all a BIG TAMASHA.
The government-of-the-day has also approved the 12th Five Year Plan.
Education is very high on their agenda - like "India Economics."
BULLONOMICS!
What do you want them to "debate" among themselves, dude?
The Mint editorial on debates as in the USSA waxes eloquent on Plato and Plato's Republic, writing favourably of the "philosopher-king." Surely a "pretension to knowledge" if ever there was one.
Today, as with Nehru or "India is Indira," when the RULER and the TEACHER are COMBINED in ONE, and "knowledge is NOT free," there is only IGNORANCE and TYRANNY. And it shows.
Plato's Republic is a disgraceful piece of FICTION.
How can such a place, with a philosopher-king and his carefully selected and trained guardian class presiding over all the affairs of a DUMB MASS OF CITIZENS ever be a res publica?
Republicanism in Ancient Greece was something else. And it is these classic texts that NONE study today.
In reality, a philosopher like Socrates or, better still, Diogenes, were SOMETHING ELSE. So, do read my post titled "What is a philosopher?"
Anyway, do check the records and note that actual debates in the "para-parliament" of the Free Press have for very long been keeping me OUT - and Mint itself discontinued my columns in 2008, just when the going was getting tough for our The State. The editor was replaced - and the new chap began publishing BULLONOMICS GALORE, like Project Syndicate, the "poison pen" from JNU, IMF-types, Nouriel Roubini, etc.
They INSTALLED this enormous "pretension to knowledge" on their OPINION pages, and certified them as "respectable" by vouching for their veracity with their "brand equity."
Let us now examine the SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES we are faced with:
IGNORANCE - including a "knowledge-proof" elite bureaucracy and an "illiterate bar."
TYRANNY.
CORRUPTION.
CRONYISM.
MASS POVERTY.
CIVILISATION COLLAPSE.
HIGHEST DEGREE OF DISORDER.
This "highest degree of disorder" must especially include international financial terrorism - for Bernanke will be EXPORTING INFLATION and the RBI top brass will connive to IMPORT it at their closed door meeting in Bombay on the 10th of October, a few days from now. The Free Press will NOT force themselves in - for the above very obvious reasons.
This will happen despite prime minister Manmohan Singh's assurance at Rio recently:
It was precisely in 2008 that I wrote "What pumps up the economy" for Mint - thereby participating on the para-parliamentary debate on that QE2 stimulus.
Anyway, I read somewhere about Kapil Sibal calling for State Powers to ensure that the Internet is not "misused."
The real problem is that State Powers are being ABUSED.
Which is why the Cabinet Secretary authorises 200 email intercentions every day!
Wonder what other "work" he has time left for doing?
Micromanagement of dissent.
Government based on information - and NOT knowledge.
We need OPENNESS IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS - and not these "closed door meetings" between fiat paper money inflationists.
And we need PRIVATE PRIVACY.
Not this snooping BULL.
Do read about Sleeman, trained at Haileybury, who founded the Intelligence Bureau in order to go after the gangs of "thuggees" - the "highwaymen" of India - who went about robbing and murdering travellers; and how he and his men nabbed them, collated all the evidence, had them tried, and convicted, after "due process," some 3000 of them, that too. It was "painstaking WORK," says the historian.
Compare that with today's "dirty tricks department."
In Sleeman's time the Indian Police did not exist - and his bureau was established because 30,000 people were falling victim to thuggees annually. He and his good men put a COMPLETE END to this LAWLESSNESS. And they did this LAWFULLY.
Today, some 300,000 DIE on our unsafe roads, streets and highways annually, many times more are seriously injured, nothing is ever done about it - and their CENTRAL MINISTER, their "national security advisor," and all the "top cops" TALK on and on and on about "terrorist and Maoists are India's greatest security threats," and how they are going to PROTECT US from these BY FORCIBLY KEEPING ALL THE PEOPLE UNARMED, while arming themselves endlessly, with already well over 200 battalions of "para-military forces" in the employ of the Central State while "Law and Order" is actually a State Subject under the Constitution..
"Pretension to knowledge" - everywhere.
They are in serious error in Law, in Economics, in Political Science, in Sociology - hence whatever they call "public administration" is a PREDATORY STATE.
Now, everyone knows that the biggest deficit pan-India pertains to the supply of electric "current."
