A cartoonist who depicted four wolves on the State Emblem instead of the usual lions has been charged with sedition – which means "inciting rebellion" - and the ridicule Indian journalism has heaped upon the wolves is best expressed by two columns from the opinion page of the Sunday Hindustan Times.
First: Indrajit Hazra’s hilarious piece poking holes into
the empty ideas of both “nationalism” as well as “patriotism.”
Second: Manas Chakravarty's regular column, which is dedicated today towards flinging derision and scorn upon
the very idea of “sedition,” as well as that of “loyalty to the constitution.”
Do read them both – and cackle!
As for me, author of Antidote: Essays Against the Socialist Indian State (Macmillan India; 2000) I am EXTREMELY PLEASED to publish this very same cartoon on my blog. This little illustration captures the essence of what took me ten thousand words.
But the cover of this book does express aggression towards the State Emblem - in silhouette - and those are BULLET HOLES in it!
The second essay in this volume is titled "How the socialist Indian State is a Predator."
Which means a WOLF.
The opening essay is tiled:

The opening essay is tiled:
Population! - or How people create prosperity
The message: The numberless people of India are a HUGE RESOURCE - and it is this Predatory Socialist State that is The Huge Problem.
But I am not "inciting rebellion"; rather, I am sowing the seeds of an INTELLECTUAL REVOLUTION.
It is a WAR OF IDEAS.
Which is why the Freedom of Speech and Expression matters so much.
It is a WAR OF IDEAS.
Which is why the Freedom of Speech and Expression matters so much.
What is the importance of the Freedom of Expression –
which is neither slander, nor libel. Nor the gossip columns’ “fucking
journalism” about who is fucking who.
The Freedom of Expression I am referring to here is the
Freedom to Disagree with Any Regime – on Principles, backed by Logical
Argument.
Here is what The Independent Whig had to say about
this MOST IMPORTANT FREEDOM way back in the 1720s:
Without Freedom of Thought, there can be no such Thing as Wisdom; and no such Thing as Publick Liberty without Freedom of Speech....
This sacred Privilege is so essential to free Government, that the Security of Property; and the Freedom of Speech, always go together; and in those Wretched Countries where a Man cannot call his Tongue his own, he can scarce call any Thing else his own.
Note that those who believe in Private Property and
Liberty – those who OPPOSE SOCIALISM ON PRINCIPLE – are LEGALLY DEBARRED from
forming political parties in India. The Indian Liberal Group led by SV Raju had
filed a petition against this particular provision of the Representation of
People Act in the Bombay High Court over 15 long years ago – and it is STILL PENDING.
Hence, there are NO DEBATES ON PRINCIPLE inside our Parliament
– and this shows, doesn’t it?
I recommend three previous posts:
First, on the Supreme Court taking the same position – and
therefore showing its “patriotism.”
Second, on the “illiterate bar” – the guilds of socialist
lawyers who alone can plead before these socialist judges, themselves a State
Monopoly. All these “bureaucrat-judges” started off as socialist lawyers. Their
Bar Councils have a monopoly on Legal Education.
Third, on why “secession is a right.”
What is really needed in India today is an OPEN DEBATE
between the Socialists and those who uphold Private Property and Free,
Consensual Exchange.
It is only because this cannot take place within the halls
of Parliament that the “politics of bandhs” is now taking place over allowing
foreigners to establish supermarkets here. What is a foreigner sets up a small
shop selling stuff – in Goa, or in Rishikesh. Does the local economy lose? What
if foreigners buy land and property? Do these values rise or fall – so do
locals gain or lose?
Let us leave aside all the “landlubber socialists” from
the Hindi heartland who are calling for an All-India Shutdown of All Markets a
few days from now and look at Narendra Modi of the BJP who rules a province
that has been trading across the Open Sea for millennia: from the times of
Lothal to those of Surat. He is quoted sniggering about how many “Italian
businessmen” will benefit from the Central State Getting Out of the Way.
Methinks Italian table wines, Prosecco, and grappa would
be great imports for all, especially the lesser-off – and these cannot be found
in Delhi! While BJP Gujarat practices a truly horrendous Gandhian CONgress prohibition of alcohol.
Anyway, is this a Debate on Principles – between Free
Trade and Protectionism?
Or is this Pure Bullshit parading around as
“politics.”
My Leader Article from the Times of India calling
for “A Second Republic” was published in 2003. The subtitle reads, “There can
be no collective property.” I prove this right at the outset, with the
following theorem:
There is no such thing called public property. Whatever goes under that name is very much private property, in the hands of someone or a group that claims to represent the public.
And being "exploited" by these people - for their own "selfish" reasons.
What does “Second Republic” mean?
It means A New Constitution.
Is this “sedition”?
In any case, the Union Budget of this year has been
nothing but “High Treason” – in my considered opinion.
I also have a 5-part series on the current prime minister
titled “The Trial of chacha manmohan s Gandhi,” written during my Pondicherry (mis)adventures last year. The first of these posts can be found here.
Actually, ALL THE POLITICAL PARTIES IN INDIA TODAY are
nothing but “leader worshippers.” None possess principles – as I wrote in a
very popular post. This includes, most importantly, the CONgress. Yes, their
“leader” has many “advisors” – which itself shows she must be quite IGNORANT.
Do read my post on this, titled “The Haunted Frightened Tree Of Complete
Ignorance,” written while I was wandering about Orissa. It begins with
what Vaclav Klaus told IMF-types who sought to advise him – men like Montek and
Raghuram Rajan:
Vaclav Klaus regaled me with the story of how some World Bank - IMF "economists" phoned him when he assumed office as President of the Czech Republic, seeking an appointment so that they could offer him "advice." He told them he knew more Economics than them, and did not need their advice. Fuck off from Prague, dudes, he told them. Return to Washington DC or wherever the fuck you came from.
But I found something that Mises said about advisors to
these “Heads of States” even more pertinent:
Someone told him that the then President of the US has “very good advisors.”Mises replied: “No one will die for the sake of what his advisors believe in. He must have strong beliefs of his own.”
Socialism?
I ABHOR IT!
